The Logitech K310 Washable Keyboard is retailing for S$59. It is a wired keyboard that is pretty reasonable priced.

Most of our keyboards are filthy and a study done in 2008 suggests that it had 150 times the recommended limit for bacteria (five times as filthy as a toilet seat). What lies beneath the keys on your keyboard? I say dirt, hairs, pet fur, food crumbs, dandruffs, etc.

Don’t you wish you can throw your keyboard in a washing machine and let it wash it? I know Li Xiang always wanted that for everything! If you have thought of that, you might want to check out Logitech K310 Washable Keyboard. You can’t exactly put it in a washing machine, but you definitely can bath it.

The first thing you notice is that the keys are slightly elevated to prevent small particles from being stuck between the keys and the keyboard.

The F keys on the first row of the keyboard double up as shortcut keys as well, by pressing the “FN” key and the respective F key will allow you to launch Email, Search, Calculator, control your media, volume and even shut down your PC. It works with Windows 8 as well.

The tactile feedback of the keys are pretty good and the size of the keys is what you will expect from a full-sized keyboard. I got no problems adapting to it.

The lettering are laser printed and coated with UV to ensure that the print will not be fade easily after washing.

Summary
Being priced at S$59, it is about S$40 more expensive than those no-frills keyboard in the market out there. But personally I still think the price is reasonable. If you have Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) when it comes to cleanliness, this keyboard is definitely for you.

If this keyboard is as durable as it sounds (I can’t really test it), it should be able to last you for at least 3-5 years. My previous experience with no-frill keyboards is that it hardly last more than 2 years (imagine the amount of dirt inside if you did not clean it).

Now, Logitech should come out with a washable mouse!

Pros:

  • Washable (doh!)
  • Reasonably priced
  • Plug and play

Cons:

  • Durability is questionable/can’t be tested
