Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review – Unboxing & Design
Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be officially available in Singapore starting from today for S$1,098.
You can buy it from Huawei Concept Stores, local telcos (Singtel, M1 and StarHub), online via Lazada.sg and from all major electronics store like Denki, Courts, Harvey Norman, and Sprint Cass.
Two colors will be available, Mocha Brown and Midnight Blue. I previously mentioned that Midnight Blue will be available on 25th November 2017, but Huawei managed to bring forward the launch of Midnight Blue together with the Mocha Brown.

Unboxing
I have the Mate 10 Pro in Mocha Brown with me.
It comes with Mate 10 itself, Mate 10 silicone cover, USB-A to USB-C charging cable, Huawei SuperCharge USB-A charger, USB-C earphones, and SIM eject tool. Interestingly, it doesn’t come with any printed manuals.
The Huawei SuperCharge is Huawei’s version of the Fast Charge. Fast charging works by allowing your mobile phone to negotiate a different voltage with the charger and thus providing higher ampere (more power).
Similar to the Mate 9, the Mate 10 Pro also included a back cover, and the phone itself has a screen protector pasted from the factory. For the Mate 9 was a hard shell plastic cover whereas, for the Mate 10 Pro, Huawei chooses to go with a silicone cover.
Mate 9 was the transitional phase from Micro-USB to USB-C, and hence Huawei included a Micro-USB to USB-C adapter. Since most Android users are already on USB-C, for the Mate 10 Pro, Huawei only included the USB-A to USB-C charging cable.
I am guessing Huawei didn’t want to use a USB-C charger with USB Power Delivery (PD) because of their investment in their proprietary Huawei SuperCharge. I am hoping this will change for the Mate 11 next year.
Design
For the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, Huawei has changed the aluminum unibody design to a glass back like what Apple did to the iPhone 8/8 Plus/X. I wish Huawei included wireless charging as glass backs are perfect for it.
The phone is rated IP67, which means it is protected from dust and can withstand being submerged in water up to 1m in depth for a maximum of 30 minutes.
The Mate 10 Pro comes with a 6″ OLED screen running at a resolution of 2160×1080 (18:9) at 402ppi with HDR10 support. The left and right side of the phone is bezel-less whereas there is a thin bezel at the top and bottom.
Powered by the latest Huawei Kirin 970 processor with AI, it features an octa-core processor of four Cortex A73 running at 2.36GHz and four Cortex A53 running at A53.
The more prominent circle located at the top of the phone is the IR blaster. You can use it to control your television.
The dual nano-SIM slot is on the left side of the phone.
It has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which you can’t expand on as there is no microSD card slot.
On the right side of the phone is the volume keys and power button.
At the bottom of the phone are the USB-C charging port and the speaker grill. The Mate 10 Pro comes with stereo speakers. Unlike the Mate 10, there is no headphone jack on the Mate 10 Pro.
The phone comes with a massive 4,000mAh battery which Huawei claims that it can last you for two days under normal usage.
Similar to most flagship phones these days, Mate 10 Pro also has two rear cameras but with LEICA Summilux-H f/1.6 lens. One 20MP monochrome camera and a 12MP color camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS).
For the Mate 10 Pro, to make the bottom bezel as thin as possible, Huawei has moved the fingerprint sensor to the rear, just below the dual cameras. A thing to note is the fingerprint sensor is a 3D fingerprint sensor and what that means is that the sensor can detect where your finger press on it.
It comes with Android 8.0 (Oreo) and the UI on top of it will be Huawei’s own EMUI 8.0 which stands for Emotional UI.
